Nexus 4 headphone jack not working issues

When I plug in headphone into the headphone jack on my new LG nexus 4, the icon appears on my phone but I can't hear anything except  fizzle sound. If I take it out, the speakers will come out noise while I am playing some type of audio. Try the set in some other device and it is working. Then I use different headphones from cheap to expensive and each of them doesn't snugly into the Nexus 4 and I still lost the sound. Should I have a replacement or how can I fix the flakey headphone jack issues?

A couple of users complain about popping and cracking with headphones. It is no an issue, you need to fit tightly with a little more effort. For new device, I always push a little harder at first  so that it could click into place and have good solid connection.

How to fix water-damaged Nexus 4 phone

Many smartphone owners have suffered the dropped phone in water syndrome yet. Today my Nexus 4 fell into the sink real quick while I am using it at home. How can I dry out and repair the water-damaged device with lower speaker/mic issues?

Water damage is not covered by any warranty. If liquid like coffee damaged the the android N4 phone, here is temporary workaround for fixing it. Note: That are no guarantees for everyone, but you need a try.

* First take it out of the water immediately and power it down.
* Remove the SIM card and use a towel to dry it off including the inside of the handset.
* Fill a Ziploc bag with uncooked white rice and put it into the rice and cover it up for a day or two. Then see if it powers on. If not working, you need to replace new one.

Connect Nexus4 phone to HDTV/monitor/projector with Slimport

Are you looking for accessories that support for tethered display sharing. Slimport to HDMI adapter, made of DisplayPort-based standard, allows you to connect from the Nexus 4's micro-USB port to an HDMI TV, monitor, or projector.

Miracast feature streams the device's display to a compatible HDTV over wifi and you always need to troubleshoot the configure. However, Slimport to HDMI adapter (SP1002) bring up multi-screen productivity without any setup. You just need to plug in the adapter and connect with the cable, then audio and video, even 3D content, will  output onto HDTV or projector.

It is great to use SP1002 to watch video or play a game. I have test 1080P movie and everything works fine without lag. It also let you charge the phone at the same time.

Nexus 7 For Dummies manual book for beginner

When you take Google Nexus 7 out of box, there is only a quick start guide and a quasi-manual file. If you really need to learn how to use the tablet, a manual is the best thing. I have bought some N7 manuals, but it is disappointed that they are missing important information and also wihout up-to-date.

After making searching, I find that "Nexus 7 For Dummies book (Google Tablet) [Paperback] by Dan Gookin" from Amazon is what I am looking for. It is very helpful when you drive yourself nutty trying to figure out function on your own.

The book includes the 5 page Chapter 20 with tutorials, such as setup steps, typing and apps management tips, advice and etc. If you don't familiar with android devices, recommend purchasing it.

Nexus 4 GPS lock location slowly issues

I have got the GPS problems on my LG nexus 4 phone. When I use GPS Status in Maps, it often locks in on my location with a long time. Showing 3/20 satellites after 10 seconds, and loading 12 per 20 after 45 seconds, then it is solid. Trying FasterGPS app doesn't fix the issues. However, other devices like my HTC One X 16G and iPhone 4s lock location accurately and quickly with no problem. Is there a software or hardware issues?

To solve the GPS issues on android phone, you could try doing a factory reset. Note: This will erase all your data.
* Press and hold the Volume Up + Volume Down + Power key combinations to boot the device into recovery mode, and then release them if Android lying photo shows up.
* You will see a lot of options. Select "Recovery mode" from the lists by pressing Volume Up/Down. To confirm that, press the Power button.
* Select "wipe data / factory reset" > "Yes–erase all user data". Once the processing has finished, it should lock within 10 seconds and faster than before.

There are some issues while setup outlook mail within android built-in app, exact same as Hotmail app. Now the official Outlook.com app for Android has been released by Microsoft and offer simple way to access your outlook email account directly.

With the app, it is eays to confiure Outlook.com on Nexus 7/10 tablet and N4 phone, just entering email address and password. Once done, you are able to start sending and receiving mail and get syncing. It works Android OS 2.1-2.3.3 and 4.0-4.1.

How to disable lockscreen widgets on android 4.2

When you manually or automatically lock your Android phone, the screen will disable many main feature and provide certain function like showing date, time and battery status information. But there is some changes on Android 4.2. The Lock screen widgets allows users to access to camera and also get an access way to calendar or Gmail.

If you don't like the new feature and want to disable or turn it off, free app called Lockscreen Policy does what you need. After tapping "activate" button in Activate device administrator tab, you are able to turn off undesired functions and get rid of the irritating sidebar flash.

Lockscreen Policy is so cleaner to use without stupid random box. It works fine on my Nexus 7 tablet, Samsung Galaxy and LG Nexus 4 phone. Hope Google add all of these into the stock system.

Mute android Nexus4 phone with easymute

On a public silence place, it is embarrassed if your android Nexus 4 phone starts ringing. When you are listening to music and then remove headphone, you also get the same situation. To instantly solve it, you have to power down the device.

With an Android app easyMute, it is easy to mute every sound with android phone by moving your hand near it, even working on locked screen. It is very helpful for me. When I listening to podcast at the office and talk to someone, just moving one of your hand to smartphone to pause, instead of removing your headphones

Unfortunately, easyMute app doesn't support lower versions of Android OS and is incompatible with Samsung Galaxy S3 and Galaxy Note 2.

How to Install Flash Player on Nexus 4 Android 4.2

Adobe Flash Player doesn't been included in Android 4.2 system, so you are unable to get Amazon Instant Video working and view flash on Nexus Family like LG nexus 4 phone and Nexus 10 tablet. However, here is a simple step by step to install Flash Player on Android 4.2.

That works fine on both dolphin browser and mozilla firefox beta, but doesn't support the Stock Browser Chrome.

Transfer photos from camera to nexus 10

I have Pentax SLR camera with regular SD cards and micro USB slot. I am wondering to buy a tablet for previewing and backuping photos. How can I transfer photos from my camera onto Samsung Nexus 10 without using PC computer?

The Nexus 10 android 4.2 doesn't have this basic feature by default. However, a paid app from Google Play store called "Nexus Media Importer" can help you directly copy and stream music/video/photos and documents from a USB flash drive or SD card connected to your device without any hassle. It is very useful while I am traveling.

Stickmount app also allows users to read memory card and flash drive, but only works on rooted device. It bring up an option for hooking up with external more storage.

How to block Phone Numbers on Nexus 4

I constantly get calls from someone to bug me on my LG Nexus 4 and it is irritating. The phone ring and I have to repeat the process  or turn off the Android device. Is there a way to block unwanted calls, like my jailbreak iPhone with iBlacklist app?

* To automatically reject the incoming calls from the specific contact, the simple way is to sent it directly to voicemail. Open the contact with built-in contacts app, press Menu, tap Options and check "Incoming calls" selection.
* Set up a blocklist to block unless calls number. "Mr Number" is a great free android app that blocks suspected spam calls and texts in history, reverse lookup phone numbers, send straight to voicemail and etc. It is easy to use and does lots of things basically.

Add custom notification sounds on Nexus 4

When a new text message or new email comes on your LG Nexue 4, you should receive a notification appearing in the top of the screen and hear a sound. * Turn on your N4 and connect it to your PC via USB cable. Open the device from Windows explorer and go to the location "Internal storage\media\audio", and copy your custom file into Notifications folder.

This method also works on other Android phones.

Turn Nexus4 phone into LED flashlight

I have just got a LG Nexus 4 phone and I always need to camping outside using lighting a candle. Now I want to use the android device's camera LED or flash as a torch. Is there a android app that turns my phone into a flashlight and works with 4.2 Jelly Bean?

Galaxy Nexus Flashlight by nionsoftware is a simple flashlight application using the LED of the camera at the back of the phone to  start the LED flash without stupid permissions. The app responses  pretty quickly and works exactly as designed on my N4, Nexus 10, Samsung Galaxy S II, Sony Ericsson WT19i and Motorola Photon Q 4G LTE.

One of the best features is that you don't need to open an app. Tapping the 4.2 lockscreen widget for the led to turn on or off briefly. It is very clean without ads and functional.

My Nexus 4 (AT&T) phone cames with multiple home screens to choose from and move between . Most of them have with apps and folders. There are three home screens that I don't use, so I want to remove blank or unnecessary pages. However, when I select menu button, I couldn't find any option to edit and delete as usually. How can I solve the problem?

* You can not modify or delete the home screens on stock Android 4.2.1. Google have decided five screens. There is no way to change the stock without modification or other additional software.
* To get how many screens you want to have, installing a launcher like Apex, nova from Google Play store should fix the issues. I have used GO Lancher for two weeks and it pinches the feature. Very happy with the app.

Nyko Playpad Bluetooth Controllers for Nexus 10

Android tablets like Samsung Nexus 10 inch with 2560 X 1600 resolution is very good for playing games, but many games need the joysticks on the screen to control movement and do others. Don't worry. Nyko's PlayPad and PlayPad Pro Bluetooth controllers can prop your tablet up and let you have a console-like experience.
This travel sized wireless Bluetooth controller uses the layout as xbox 360, especially the pro, and has all the buttons you really need. It is compatible with almost devices and has optimized the HID (human interface device) mechanic and optimized for Tegra 3. When I input from the controller, the Playpad could respond quickly.

It also brings up some great features, such as Keyboard Mapping, Mouse emulation and Touch Event Mapping. The Battery life is about 30 hours. However, the accessory seems to have some issues. It pairs successfully with my N10, but doesn't connect after Android 4.2.1 system update. Now it is available in black and white models on Amazon.

No audio while streaming video to TV

I have downloaded movie from the Google Play store. After connecting hdmi mini to nexus 10, I am able to stream video to my tv. I can see the display but no audio comes out. Trying some personal videos, YouTube and playing Need For Speed also have the same issue.  The volume is working on my tablet if I listen to music. Is there some things or setting I am missing?

The audio should work out of the box with Nexus 10. It is not necessary to use extra app.
* The HBO Go does disable playback over HDMI, so this is no support.
*  You may have a faulty cord or a bad cable. Go to buy one from Amazon, like Micro HDMI to HDMI Cable 6 feet, BlueRigger High Speed Micro HDMI to HDMI cable with Ethernet (10 Feet)
* If you use an HDMI switcher, plug the cable directly to the TV.

Nexus 10 no responding and reboot issues

I have finally bought the Samsung Nexus 10, but it comes with strange behavior. When I am browsing website and scrolling down a page, the Chrome app suddenly becomes no responding and the tablet malfunctions and frozes up with the screen on. I have to hold down the power button to reboot it. Then I try using Firefox, it crashes 5 time in a 15 minute browsing session.

My friend's also has the similar issue. He played the Angry bird game for two hour and then the screen flashed and the device rebooted itself.

I think it is a bug in Android 4.2 Jelly Bean. That happen frequently on my N7 after updated.

How to Turn off 3G and use wifi only

I want to avoid accidental roaming charges on my Nexus 7 3G model with a limited 3G data plan, so I always have to disable all wireless features and even power down the tablet. But sometime I need to browse internet and read email. Is there a solution without data roaming charges for Android users?

How to Turn off 3G and still use wifi only on Nexus 7
* From start screen, tap on your Settings app that looks like a gear.
* Tap on More > Mobile Networks, uncheck "Data Enabled." to turn off just your 3G radio. Then you can connect to a Wi-Fi enabled router or hotspot and you should see only a Wi-Fi signal icon on screen.

Obviously, some apps also promise to do the same thing, such as Power Toggles which is excellent toggle bar widget, and other widgets that purport to uncheck it as well.

Messaging is sending a large amount of SMS messages

I have got the LG Nexus 4 phone. When I try to send a lot of text with in a short time, it pops up the error message "Messaging is sending a large amount of SMS messages. Do you want to allow this app to continue sending message?" with Deny and Allow options. It is annoying. Is there a way to remove or disable the warning?
This is really a useful feature of Android 4.2 Jelly Bean. It can help you prevent rogue/malicious apps from sending lots of SMS in the background without your knowledge. If it allows uers to add whitelisting for some apps, that would be nice. Now the only way to remove it is to use a modded SMS .apk file or install a custom ROM.

Nexus 7 reboot itself after Android 4.2 updated

After installing the OTA Android 4.2 upgrade onto my nexus 7 without rooted and unlocked, now it keep rebooting itself, even in safe mode. I just have a day of usual use. I am also experiencing that the apps crash and keyboard doesn't go away from screen. I try to do a hard reset and it still randomly reboot very 30 seconds on its own. This doesn't happened on 4.1. There is a general 4.2 problem. You need to do a system hard reset.
* Shut down the tablet and connect it to computer.
* Press Volume Up + Volume Down + Power to power it up, then select the Recovery Mode option. Use volume button to go to "Wipe Data / Factory Reset" and do that.
* Another way is to go to Setting, switch off WiFi and connect network again. That also seems to fix it.

How to fix crash/lagging issue on android 4.2

I am having a small number of problems with lag on my Google nexus 7. After updated to android 4.2, it is probably causing extreme lag and keeps crashing for me, such as exiting an app, switching screen and etc, even sometimes just freezes. When I try to change the direction from landscape mode to horizontal, it runs slowly and takes about six seconds to rotate but just rotated within two second before. Is that a way to get it working normally?

How to fix lagging issue on android 4.2
* Try deleting the cache should solve the similar problem.

When I try to stream music to my bluetooth speaker system, the Bluetooth become unusable and almost broken. It starts stuttering or crackling every 10-15 seconds, even no way to turn Bluetooth on.

I try 3 different A2DP devices and also can not listen to music. When I detect and pair with devices in my car, bluetooth suddenly disconnect and then make apps crashing. Making 4.2 Factory image still has the same issues.

Nexus 4 Headphone Jack problem

I recently bought a new Google Nexus 4 by LG and have this problem. I have about 5 different headphones from cheap to expensive, such as Panasonic RPHJE120K, Klipsch IMAGE S4 In-Ear Enhanced Bass Noise-Isolating, Bose IE2 Audio. When I try using one of them to  to listen to music and forcibly push the jack, none of them could fit snugly into the phone. To  get sound, I need to  lightly force it in and hold it into the connection. If I let go, the sound will be lose.

It seems to be a big problem and common on new devices. If you can't hear anything, except from the system speakers, you should gotta push them in more to get them tightly fitting. After a few uses, it will break-in and be working well.

If there is only audio on the left/right of the headphones, make sure it is not faulty and snug in the port. The methods fix the issues.

How to Replace LG Nexus 4 Battery

If the battery lasts considerably less than it did before, you'd better pull it out of the electronic device and go to replace it with a new one. The LG-produced Nexus 4 smart phone has an internal battery and it seems to be non-removable. but, it is possible to swap out a new battery (2,100mAh, 3.8V, 8.0 Whr) without tearing apart the device completely.

How to Replace/remove LG Nexus 4 Battery properly
* Press and hold the power button of your device to shut it down.
* After the processing is fully completed, use a screw driver tool like T-5 Torx to disassemble two torx screws on the back size. Then open some plastic clips.

It is very easy  to do by yourself and a good time to ensure that you have a back up battery in case you need it.

Poor battery life on 32Gb model

I had bought a Nexus 7 32GB model and let it charge fully through a day. I notice the poor battery life issues. I just keep staying on WiFi and browse the internet, but the battery go from 100 to 72 percent in two hours. Compared to my 16GB, the battery drains faster and it doesn't near the same amount of battery life. I am horrified that I have to charge it three times today.

If you keep screen on and make somethings like surfing, Google Earth, reading Ebooks, you get about 6-9 hours. Playing game all the time should use more power. Some running android might cause the issue, so you'd better find it out and kill it.

How to disable 3G mobile data on Nexus 4

After I bought a Google Nexus 4 smart phone, I want to adjust something with it. I just use it connect to internet from my home WiFi network and have the mobile data limits, so I need to disable 3G mobile data alone for saving more battery life and data usage. How can I fix the issues?

* Turn it off in the Settings. Go to Settings > Wireless & networks > Data usage, and un-check "Data enabled" option.
* Another good solution is download and install the free version of Juice Defender from Google Play. The Android app not only automatically turn off your 3G/4G while you are connected via WiFi , but also improves the devices performances.

How to Insert micro SIM Card in Nexus 4

I have just got a Google Nexus 4 and power it up, but the phone's lock screen displays "No SIM card" error message. It seems no way to use the device. How can I get it working?

Because there is no SIM installed. As part of the setup process, you will have to insert a micro SIM card into it.
* A SIM card is used to identify a unique subscriber on the network and its tray is located on the left side of the phone under the volume button.
* Power it off and use a thin pin into a small hole which is just above the tray door for ejecting the slot. And slide the micro SIM card gently inside it.
* Finally push it gently back into your phone.

Titanium Create Flashable Zips Of data backup

If you are a Titanium Pro user and have downloaded a new ROM and want to install it on your Android device, you need to backup all your apps first and make a nandroid backup in recovery mode. After installing the ROM successfully, you should set up and restore all data. But this takes you a long time.

With the latest update on Titanium Backup Pro app, you are able to create a flashable zip file of all your apps and data. An "apps+data" update.zip is very helpful for flashing all things after firing up new system.

There are also other features in TB, like upload larger than 150 MB files to Dropbox, display all app's storage use on a screen.

Photos Daydream mode on Android 4.2

There are many new features included in Android 4.2 Jelly Bean OS, such as Swype-like gesture typing Keyboard, Photo Sphere and multi-accounts support. Daydream is perhaps not a helpful function and seems to be relatively useless crap, but it is quite cool on your tablet or phone.

With turning "Daydream" mode on and your device is idle or docked, the screen will display and fill up with the latest pictures from your photo album within gallery app or feeding from Google Currents and other apps.

If you have updated to Android 4.2, you could dock your Nexus 7 at work in the office or put it on desktop at home for getting a pictures showing.

Install and run Chromium OS on Nexus 7

Google's own Chromium operating system is a Linux-based  open source project. It is simple to use and run securely and fast, working exclusively with web applications. Many users are wondering how to install the desktop OS on android device.

Chrome OS has been running onto an Android tablet yet. Chromium developer Hexxeh has ported Chromium to his Nexus 7 successfully. The touch input and WiFi functions are working. The image is not available for download since now and it doesn't work with Android 2.2. Hope adding a dual boot configuration.

This is cool. You need to wait for its release date and I will try it out on N7.

Android 4.2 Camera with Photo Sphere feature

Android 4.2 Jelly Bean gets a "Photo Sphere" within camera app that allows users to capture 360-degree panoramic photos on tablet or phone. The new feature starts with both of the Nexus 10 and Nexus 4, and will come to other devices soon.

Photo Sphere still brings up a normal panoramic photo mode, but it guides you to where you need to aim the next snapshot by moving right or left, up and down, and zooming in/out.

The camera app take some photos in higher level and some lower. The system will stitch all images together into a big "Street View" type photo. Then you are able to easily upload the Photo Sphere creations to Google Maps.

Wireless stream video to TV on Android 4.2

Android 4.2 is a new flavor of Jelly Bean version that is released by Google recently. It is similar to Android 4.1, but bring up some major new features. One of them is to beam content to TV using a wireless display adapter that connects via HDMI, like iPad's Airplay.

The feature uses an industry-standard Wi-Fi display sharing protocol called Miracast. With Miracast-compatible TV, you are able to stream audio and video to the big screen on your Nexus 7 or 10 for gaming and others. LG has already builded it into all of its 2013 smart TVs and that works well on 4.2.

I will go to try from the N7 to a 50-inch plasma panasonic 3d and see if it works.

Android 4.2 multiple users on Nexus 10-inchs

The Mac, Windows and Linux operating system allows many accounts to concurrent access on one computer, but this  coolest and useful feature doesn't work with tablets and phones, like iPad. With Google's Android Jelly Been 4.2 update, you are able to get multiple user account switching on Nexus 10 and 7 tablets.

Android 4.2 offers customized apps and data for each user. Everyone has their own home screen, apps, widgets, background, widgets, and games. The system saves the levels and scores of accounts. If one user has already downloaded an app, another could get instantly have its .apk file, without re-downloading anything.

This is a good solution while you are sharing a single tablet with multiple people in the family or in office.

I had used dock connectors but I really need a wall mount system accesory. My wife is often in the kitchen. She want to drop my Nexus 7 into the wall mount for browsing news and weather reports, checking emails or watching recipes video.

Dockem's Damage-Free Wall Mount offers the cheapest and simplest solution for mounting any tablet or smartphone fairly well onto the most wall using 3M tape. OverDrive Media Console Free ebook downloads

Is there a way to check out and read free ebooks from public libraries directly to your Android device? OverDrive Media Console app allows you to download and play DRMed audiobooks directly to your phone and tablet, and cuts out the middleman (Mac/PC computer).

I tried it on my Nexus 7 and kindle fire HD. That is pleasant to use and it works just fine. Since I already had an Adobe ID, it was a piece of cake to download books from local library and finally read epub books.

This is a essential library app. However, the text often shows up blank and garbled and the page sometime is not loading. That would make you frustrate. Hope fix the issues. Overall, it's the a better way to read materials on the tablet.

GOgroove SonaWAVE Portable Stereo Speaker System

While I listen music on my Nexus 7, the built-in speaker is mono and not loud enough, and the headphones is good but I don't want to always wear them. Today I get a great little product from Amazon - GOgroove SonaWAVE Portable Stereo Speaker System by Accessory Power.

The Portable Stereo Speaker System has a cube styling with blue accents and back-lit LED glow. Its compact size let you easily carry on the go or just relax outside. I often strap it onto my bike's rear rack. The sound is room-filling stereophonic and the volume control supports play/pause/skip/previous. I have tried playing music from N7 and a flash drive. Everything works fine with awesome effect.

The accessory is extremely versatile, working with smartphones, tablets, MP3/DVD Players, Laptops and game consoles. There is three audio inputs: 3.5 mm stereo, mini sd card and USB flash drive. Another awesome feature is to charge battery via USB or AC adapter.

Nexus 7 Calendar History for more than a month

I have used 10 years of calendar history in Google Calendar on my Windows XP computer for business purposes. After used "Google Calendar Sync" software for syncing with the same Google account on my Nexus 7, the tablet only gets about a months worth of prior events and appointments to the Calendar app, and others works fine.

Now I really need to enable the device to sync more history for doing business on a daily basis. Is there a solution for that? How to fix the issues?

* On your android tablet or phone, go into Setting > Date & Time, tap on "Set date" and change it back to your date like January of 2002.
* From Home screen, tap Settings > Apps > Manage Applications > All tab > Calendar, and press "Clear Data" and "Clear Cache".
* Go to Accounts & Sync, select your Google account and touch "Sync" button in upper right corner to let it resync again. After the processing is finished, reset the system date back to the actual date.

Organize/sort/group books in Google Books app

I have already purchased some ebooks from Google Play store on my Nexus 7 and want to build up a digital library. When I open them within Google Books App, I note there is no section to organize, sort, or group books. The other Android Ebook Reader apps like  Moon+ have the feature, but I can't find a way to import them or read e-library. How can I fix the issues?

The Google app lacks of organizing Books since now. Content providers, such as Google, Apple, Amazon, restrict the flexibility of your purchase and only allow you to use a single source of content, so you are unable to  transfer from one content to another. However, Amazon is the best choice, because the app has many version for multiple platforms.

Official Android 4.1.2 OTA update failed

I have rooted my Nexus 7 but not flashed any ROMs. The Android 4.1.2 is available. I go to apps to clear the Google Framework Service data cache and reroot the tablet to force getting the OTA update. When I try to install it, it runs and stucks on 20% along the progress bar with a spinning blue multi-faceted shape and a red warning triangle. Then the device just reboots back to completely stock Android 4.1.1 with no mods and no root.

How to fix official Android 4.1.2 ota update failed issues
* Make sure you have at least 90% battery for making it work successfully.
* Doing a hard reset by tapping Settings > Backup & Reset > Factory Data Reset and pressing "Reset Tablet".
* Download the stock 4.1.2 image from Google developers web site and flash it.

OTA RootKeeper protects Nexus7 rooting with OTA updates

If you receive an system OS update on a rooted Android device like Galaxy Nexus and Honeycomb and don't want to make it to be unroot mode, OTA RootKeeper app gives you a solution for installing any OTA update and then you can still completely install ROMs and mods, increase performance and customize the tablet or phone.

The app works perfectly and fast on my Nexus 7 without any issues after upgraded from Jelly Bean 4.1.1 to 4.1.2 via OTA update.

OTA RootKeeper requires /system partition as Ext2, Ext3 or Ext4. It is easy to use. The app makes a backup of your root device and protecte it. Just granting root access within it and tap on "Protect root" button. After updating your device via OTA update successfully, it will restore from backup. YOu can also temporarily non-root the device to do something using the app.

Youtube video stops streaming when screen locked

I have got an annoying problem with the tablet 4.1.2 update. When I watch Youtube or other streaming video on Nexus 7, I often pause the video and let it buffer. If I lock up the screen, it will cancel the stream processing and stop working. I have to remove the screen lock and keep touching. It starts to buffer again from starting and then become complete. But there isn't any battery saving app. Is there a way to fix the issues?

This is a common problem on Android devices. You could go to Setting and increase the timeout period to 5 minutes. However, a "KeepScreen" app seems to be a better solution.

KeepScreen blocks screen timeout with the selected apps are actived. Very usefull for reading, browsing, or guide with Google maps. It also works great for streaming content while playing.

Fly & record HD video with AR.Drone 2.0

The Parrot AR.Drone 2.0 is new expensive wi-fi quadricopter. It sports a standard-definition camera pointing at the ground and another 720p camera. With AR.FreeFlight 2.0 app, you are able to turn your Android tablet or smartphone into remote-control flying and HD video-recording device.
It is easy to setup the AR.Drone 2.0. You need to connect it to your tablet over Wi-Fi 802.11A/B G and N. Then start to fly and control the direction of Drone.

The control app works great on galaxy nexus 4.1. However, when I test it on my Nexus 7, the accelerometer always respond very slowly. And I have to go into setting and change joy pad mode for fixing the issue.

Enable Firefox reader mode on Android

With the version 16 update, Firefox for Android bring up  Reader Mode feature that is similar to Safari's new 'Reader' and Kindle Fire's Reading View. Wihle you are browsing some web-sites with distractions, Reader Mode could let you focus on the content of the article which you are actually wanting to read. This works very well on nexus 7 and Galaxy Tab 10.1.

How to enable Reader Mode in Firefox on Android tablet or phone
* Loading the Web page in browser, and tapping on the book icon next to the URL at the top. The processing is very simple.
* The mode basically leave out flashing advertisements, links, polls, menus, and other sidebar elements. Now you are able to focus on the content.

The attending meetings are much easier on the go. Only complaint is that there  is a little stuttery with the streaming video.

Parental Control apps for Android tablet

If you lend your child a miniature computer like nexus 7 or Galaxy Tab 2, they easily find some offensive sites and material. So you need android parental control app to monitor your kid's activities and give them limitative rights on the tablet. There are some great parental control and monitoring apps on the Google Play store.

* Kids Place
The app restricts babies, toddlers and teenagers to apps you have approved on custom home screen and protects your personal data. It can also disabe all WiFi signals, and configure specified amount of time. Now I am able to totally relaxed leaving my N7 to my daughter with free time.

Can you auto-open pdf files within Android browser

While I access websites using the Chrome on my Nexus 7 or   Galaxy Tab, I have to download the PDF, word or other documents and then manually open them by Acrobat Reader from the Downloads. The process spends lots of time waiting for that and managing all files. Can I directly click on the link and auto-launch a PDF file within the Chrome or other browser? So I can view files linked in web pages. How to resolve the problem? The default browser doesn't support the feature. To open PDF within the browser, you could try the following work around. * Download and install Dolphin Browser from the Google Play store. Then  download PDF reader plugin for Dolphin to your device and install it. Now you are able to view a PDF attachment from an HTML page.

B-Folders Password Manager for Android devices

There are lots of apps keeping your sensitive information safe on Android smartphone or tablet, such as contact and credit card details, users login information for sites. To prevent them from prying, I recommends using B-Folders Password Manager by JointLogic Ltd for the business.

B-Folders offers secure way to create folders for storing data like password, contact, task, bookmark and journal. All sensitive data is fully encrypted with 256-bit AES cipher and doesn't use with any 3rd parties cloud services. With their desktop client, you can easily sync your private information to Windows, Mac and Linux.

After giving up Palm smartphone, the app works like a charm on my Nexus 7 and Galaxy S2. I use it to store various types of passwords and backup. Effortless sync and transfer to Windows 7 desktop.

nexus 7 mind mapping tools

With using Mind mapping tools, you can create and represent various types of schemes, thoughts and ideas and apply them on presentations, projects and meeting. There are some best mind mapping tools for nexus 7 on Google Play store.

* SimpleMind Free mind mapping by ModelMaker Tools
A simple but very useful way to collect structure thoughts and draw a mind map. The app supports Undo/Redo, move, regroup and change styles. I have used it on N7 without any crashing or bugs.

* iMindMap HD by ThinkBuzan
The app offers a limitless workspace to organising tasks, capturing ideas and makeing note-taking. It looks awesome but locks on a pricey cloud and lacks of some important features. I couldn't remove a branch and have to delete whole map.

Nexus 7 2A Car Charger

Car chargers are a dime-a-dozen, but lets you charge your Nexus 7 on the go. Expensive device chargers can pump out enough juice to charge the tablet and at least won't ruin thes battery.

* Tmvel Gadi 10W 5V/2A Dual Port High Speed USB Car Charger - Heavy Duty
This accessory is compact and light weight. Simply Plug the Tmvel Gadi into your car cigarette port. The Easy-to-see LED displays if the device is connected.
* CrazyOnDigital Dual Car Charger DC Adapter with dual USB Cable, Black
It has two built-in different cables (mini and micro USB), and one plug for 1amp and another for 2amp capability devices. It works well, but doesn't fit well within the cigarette lighter socket.
* Arcadia Rapiduo, 10W 5V/2A Dual Port high-speed USB car charger w/ Free Full Speed Micro-USB Charging Cable (IMP80C)
It is small with sleek design. With dual USB ports, you can charge N7 tablet and a second device at the same time as well. Doing a nice job while using the tablet for GPS.

Stylus Optimized Handwriting on nexus 7

A stylus pen is working for taking notes and I have my nexus 7 for it. Surely the larger screen is better for writing. If you want to get stylus optimized handwriting, you need some Android apps.
Writepad Stylus is great keyboard app that lets you capture your handwriting using either a stylus with a soft rubber tip or your finger and turns your scribble into normal text. It features auto-scroll, custom pen color/size/transparency, flip view, and export page. The app works on any text on the Android system, because it installs itself as an input method.

Writepad has a silky smooth writing experience on my N7  tablet. Simple and effective for taking notes. When combined with a decent stylus, this is a useful app for science and math classes.

Best photo editor app for nexus 7

Android is an amazing platform. In digital age, no matter if you are a photo pro or a beginner at photography, it is easy to transform your nexus 7 into a tablet photography studio using photo editing app.

PicSay Pro - Photo Editor is Android photography app with many useful features, such as distort, sharpen, remove red eye, crop & straighten, insert cutouts, paint, turn color into black and white, add text, word balloons, and support for nexus 7. Wi-Fi Shoot shares Videos/Photos by Wi-Fi Direct

There are a few Android devices support Wi-Fi Direct sharing, because the protocol requires Ice Cream Sandwich and jelly bean. Many device haven't included support in the OS system, but Android app could make two phones/tablets to connect and transfer video and photos.

WiFi Shoot! [Beta] wirelessly transmits photos and videos directly from device to device using the WiFi Direct technology. After installing the app on both devices, just select the local media you want to send and tap "Wi-Fi Shoot" from share menu. They will be paired and start beaming.

I have tested it on many devices: nexus 7, galaxy nexus, galaxy s2, galaxy s3, HTC One S, Asus Tf300 and Asus prime. It works flawlessly, better than Bluetooth. Transferred a 50 MB 1080p video in a couple of seconds.

Getting Nexus 7 Latest Updates, News & Apps

I was searching for news app keeping everyone updated with Nexus 7 for a long time. Fortunately I get the Ultimate Google Nexus 7 App by Drippler. It is well managed and gives you only relevant content, such as the latest rumors, stay up-to-date software updates, usage tips, apps & games, tech-support, accessories and more.

Ultimate app is an excellent collaboration of news and general articles with support, recommendations and comparisons. It brings Android users that are in the shadows of technology into the light. There are different category tabs: latest, Popular (Highlights, Weekly, monthly), and deals.

If you have a Nexus 7, this is a must-have app. You are able to customize your news, and put the widget straight to your desktop. But the magnify implementation is poor and it requires two taps.

Syncing Email/Contacts/Calendar from Corporate Exchange server

The Exchange experience is too weak for an Android user. I am a Exchange user and was considering using the Windows Mobile. Now I have discovered the TouchDown HD (for ICS/JB) by NitroDesk, Inc.

If you use Exchange at work, TouchDown HD is a proper Microsoft Exchange client that securely gets access and does syncing to email, contacts, calendars, and tasks from your corporate Exchange server to your tablet. It comes with Outlook-style  view and widgets, and also support filtering and multiple calendar views. Better than the stock one in jelly bean.

TouchDown HD works with no lag and response quickly on my nexus 7. The app still needs some improvements, such as can't group messages like oulook 2010, and import items into the calendar.

USB output External Battery Charger/Pack for Nexus 7

I will spend a lot of time camping in the outdoors where there is not a near power source. My tablet battery sucks quickly and  I want to take it with me. Can you recommend an external battery pack/charger for Nexus 7 in the market to keep battery for a good long using.

Fonus Bluetooth Wireless Stereo Headset for Nexus 7

I have lost my Skullcandy Earbuds with In-Line Microphone. I want to get a  Stereo BT headset for listening to music on the tablet when I work outside in the yard. Can anyone recommend a best bluetooth stereo headset which has really the good sound in highs, mids and lows?

I have got the Fonus Bluetooth Wireless Stereo Headset w Microphone Noise Cancellation Handsfree Over-the-head Style Headphone for Nexus 7. Easily pair and setup to wirelessly enjoy the stereo music.

Home CCTV system with TinyCam Monitor for android

With home CCTV system using one or more webcams, you can check up on the place when  you are not there and record the burglars. There are many Android apps allowing you to view IP cameras. Here I recommend tinyCam Monitor FREE by Tiny Solutions LLC as one part of home surveillance system.

tinyCam Monitor is a excellent app that remotely surveillance, control and digital video recording for your IP cameras, video encoders and DVRs. Simple to set up and intelligent to use. The update speed (frame rate of around 8fps) is very fast through wifi network.
I test it on my Nexus 7 and monitor two zoneminder cameras in real time. Everything is instant and clear. Controllability of camera from tablet is great. It also features webCamXP support and automaticswitching. If you need more functions, the Pro Version let you view much more cameras on the larger 7-inch screen and scan them on the network.

Turn Nexus 7 into a digital photo frame

I want to use a nice digital picture frame to put on my desk at work, but it need to be horizontal to display the photos at full size. I note that the photos are equally nice on my Nexus 7. Can I turn the 7-inch Android tablet into digital picture frame on office desk?

* First you need to buy a stand to keep it on the desk.
* Then move your photos in a folder. Open gallery app and go into the folder. Pull up a picture and tap "slideshow" to play.
* But the method is not perfect. Some Android app with slideshow capability could help you do the job. Social Frame Free HD Slideshow will turn your device into a digital photo frame when you are not using it. The app automatically syncs all tagged photos from your Facebook, Twitter, RSS (Google+ soon), and features slideshow/transition animations, Clock, Weather and more.

If you want to go off the records while browsing websites on your android device, you can achieve private browsing or be incognito by using Chrome or Dolphin HD Browser. Is there best private browsing app for Nexus 7?

There are many to choose from and my favorite is Frost Lite private tabbed web browser by Crowbar Solutions. Camera ICS+ takes photos on Nexus 7

The Nexus 7 has only a front facing camera for video calling and lacks a camera app. To make the device more cheaper, there is no rear camera. If you want to take/capture photos from the tablet, Camera ICS+ by Moblynx could help you do that.

Camera ICS+ app is improved from Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich and compatibled with Jelly Bean. It features burst mode, guidelines, timer, take Wide screen pictures, low/medium/high/ultra quality setting. You can also apply some color effects like mono, sepia and negative, and record 720p video.

The app works great on Nexus 7. It has stylish and simple UI and runs smoothly, much better than my Galaxy S3's stock app.  After configure options, I am able to take photos by pressing the volume button. All pics come with excellent quality. Really love the ability to take shots without sound. But the silent mode makes the app crashing.

A main issue is that the screen orientation randomly switchs between portrait and landscape mode.

With USB cable, the efficient way about transfer data is to connect your Android to computer. If you have Windows PC running Samba/CIFS file share server, you can mount SMB share on your device over WiFi network.

How to enable 3G connectivity on Nexus 7 WiFi only

The Nexus 7 WiFi only model lacks 3G/4G data connection compatibility, but the iPad does features that if you spend extra money purchasing. When you are outside, in car or on the place without WiFi hotspot and really need to check something online, in my use there is very inconvenient. However, if you have a 3G broadband USB modem, it is actually easy to enable 3G connectivity on Nexus 7.

* The things what you need: 3G broadband USB modem stick like Huawei GSM/UMTS Stick and O2 Germany or ZTE 3565-z UMTS Stick, an OTG cable that you could buy from Amazon.
* You have to root your tablet first, and download and insatll PPP Widget by Josua Dietze from Google Play store. This usb_modeswitch tool enables fully Internet access over almost any USB device.
* Connect the 3G dongle with OTG cable and the tablet. Open the PPP Widget, tap configure button and type your user name and password. Once you've done, tap Connect button.

It seems to be an issues of Jelly Bean OS.

After installed the WIFI High Performance Widget on nexus 7, the WiFi connection works normally and stays connected throughout the night, without any issues. This little app potentially solve the sporadic/unreliable connectivity problems.

WIFI High Performance Widget also has other features, such as speed up download transfer rate, lowering latency, and ensure wifi is running put into higher PM state.

How to improve sound quality of nexus 7

For music fans, the sound quality of nexus 7 doesn't have good audio performance. My Galaxy Tab 2 is more louder with the volume level than Nexus. To improve the sound and get the best audio, Android apps from Google Play sotre can help you optimize it.

Volume+ (Volume Boost) by Meltus is the only app which lets you save and load your own custom EQ settings on the device. The app  boosts your volume so loud without any rooting.
I have tested Volume+ in Google Music and Hulu+ apps and it works prefectly. The sound of both stock N7 Jelly Bean and  HTC one x are improved. It fixes the system wide issue and turns my tablet into audible and finally loud enough to listen music on my car.
